Rooney Mara teases potential involvement in film adaptation of The Silent Patient

Rooney Mara may have just let the cat out of the bag on a new role.

The 34-year-old was spotted leaving Pizzeria Mozza in Hollywood yesterday holding a copy of The Silent Patient, a book whose rights were optioned by Brad Pitt‘s film production company Plan B in March. 

Mara, known for her dramatic undertakings, may be in the running to play the novel’s female antagonist, Alicia Berenson.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo star was seen exiting famous restaurant Pizzeria Mozza located in the heart of Hollywood.  

Mara has always had an edgier take on fashion and her street style is no exception.

She kept it casual and cool in a light-wash denim jacket paired with ripped, black mom jeans and some squeaky clean Converse.

Mara showed off her crystal clear complexion, which stood out against her rounded, gold shades. 

Though Rooney’s fashion is often a draw, it isn’t her outfit that’s catching fans’ attention this time. 

The Mary Magdalene actress was seen not only with a pizza to-go box, but with a copy of the New York Times best-selling novel, The Silent Patient. 

Though the book may just be a leisure activity for the actress, it’s more likely that Mara may be involved in the book’s impending film.

In March of 2019, The Hollywood Reporter was the first to report that actor Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B, along with Annapurna, had optioned the rights to the story.

The Silent Patient, written by Alex Michaelides revolves around a central female antagonist by the name of Alicia Berenson, a famous painter, who, without explanation, shoots her famous fashion photographer husband dead. 

Berenson’s refusal to speak or give any kind of rationale for her actions ‘casts her into notoriety, the price of her art skyrockets and she, the silent patient, resides at the Grove, a secure forensic unit in North London.’

The novel follows the quest of protagonist, Theo Faber, a criminal psychologist, who. having wanted to meet with Alicia, is determined to get her to spill her guts. 

The Silent Patient is described as a ‘twisty’ thriller and has garnered a major fan following since its release in February of 2019.

Having had its film rights snatched up just a month after its release, it’s clear a role in The Silent Patient is one to have.

And one that Rooney Mara may just be vying for.  

In July of 2019, Mara became engaged to boyfriend of three years and Joker star, Joaquin Phoenix.

The couple originally met on the set of the film Her, but wouldn’t begin dating until they were reunited on the set of the 2018 film Mary Magdalene.

Rumors of their potential engagement swirled during the Spring months of 2019 when Rooney was spotted numerous times wearing a ring on that famous finger.

It was a big year for her man with the release of his film Joker, which raked in over $1Billion worldwide at the box office.

Rooney was a supportive fiancée as she traveled to each of the film’s premiere to support Phoenix and his critically acclaimed blockbuster.

Now with the potential of a major role coming Mara’s way in the New Year, it will soon be Joaquin’s turn to play her supporting act on the red carpet.
